I did not begin making art because I had something to say. I began because I wanted to find out.

The mirror in the material

There is a specific magic to working with your hands. Charcoal drags across paper in a way that does not care what you meant. Words on a page reveal what you actually believe, not what you planned to believe. Cover designs settle into their real proportions long before your brain admits it.

The material tells the truth first. You catch up later.

Creativity as inquiry

The most useful reframe of my life was this: creativity is not primarily about producing beautiful things. It is about finding out what is inside you that you had not yet noticed.

Every choice — this shade, that word, this composition, that pause — is a tiny confession of what your particular self actually prefers. Over time, those confessions add up into a portrait. Not of what you can make, but of who is making.

Why this matters for the DRB Method

Discover through art is uniquely honest. You cannot fake a line the way you can fake a sentence in conversation. You cannot dress a preference in someone else's language. The page is a witness that only reflects what is really there.

Reconnect through art is a re-entering of your own body. The making silences the borrowed voices for long enough that yours can be heard.

Belong through art comes when you share the work without apology, and someone recognizes themselves in the particular truth you made visible.

A small invitation

You do not have to be an artist. You only have to make something small — a sentence, a sketch, a photograph you actually took because you wanted to — and then look at it honestly.

You will find a person in there. That person is you, and they have been waiting.
